All-dielectric self-supporting (ADSS) cable is a type of optical fiber cable that is strong enough to support itself between structures without using conductive metal elements.
LHS carried out a series of load tests to determine the ADSS Fibre Optic Cable breaking strain and Give Link's assembly breaking strain.
A full range of load tests were documented that allowed for the design of a Cable Break away system with the potential for a single or double strike and break which could be fitted over railway lines, main roads or high risk agricultural pathways.
By testing all the individual components, we were able to build a profile of the best application for the safe system for accidental strikes to the AFL/ADSS cables.
The use of high accuracy load cells and a set of vice points which collected data to accurately read the maximum force exerted on the cable and the flexing of the cable during the tests.
Finite Element Analysis of each item was carried out to ensure long term stability. Proof load testing was carried out to match analysis requirements
Certification was then given to the Give Link, as proof of conformance.
